LA MESA POST 282

BE A SUPPORTER OF YOUR LOCAL VETERANS CLUB

Did you know that any donation given to a “mother” organization does not filter to the local organization, who continues to strive to provide Programs and benefit to local veterans?  Please know:

DONATIONS ARE APPRECIATED.  The La Mesa American Legion Post 282 is a non-profit Veterans Organization 501(c)(19), FEIN 95-2278001, California Corporate ID 147881.

It is a fact of life that your American Legion (affectionately called the La Veterans Club, comprised of several veterans’ organizations), is having a hard time with the daily expenses. Why?  The age of our facility (1947) wholly owned by the La Mesa American Legion, past neglect to properly maintain and update it, utilities, taxes, and the lack of volunteers.  Though we have solar, we must pay the investment and the other charges we are levied as are all other business entities; our ever-increasing taxes levied on sales, facility, and property; our labor that considers the lack of volunteers that requires we hire persons when required, which prior to recent years could be avoided with volunteer labor; our youth not fully utilizing their facility’s meals and other entertainment events due to the burdens of high cost of living and their job demands; and our low charges for food and drink that benefits you.

There are several ways to donate to the American Legion (to whom the facility belongs):

Bequests.  One of the most popular ways to give, a bequest can be made through gifs of cash, securities, personal property, and/or real estate.  The wording of a bequest is simple:

“I give, devise, and bequeath to American Legion La Mesa Post 282, 8118 University Ave. La Mesa, CA 91942-5565, the sum of $____________; or the following described property ____________; or _____ percent of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate.

Retirement Accounts.  Properly designated charitable gifts of retirement accounts bypass probate, avoid taxation, and reduce the size of your taxable estate.

Life Insurance Policies.  A convenient way to support the La Mesa veterans club is a life insurance gift that simply allows you to designate the La Mesa American Legion, VFW, etc., as the beneficiary of your policy.  Gifts of life insurance are tax-deductible when a 501c(19) charity is the irrevocable owner and beneficiary of the policy.
